Ms. Maria Vello, CISSP, joined the Cyber Defence Alliance (CDA) as Chief Operating Officer in April 2016. Prior to this she was CEO and President of the NCFTA (National Cyber-Forensics & Training Alliance) for three years. Maria brings a wealth of experience in trust-based collaboration, information sharing across industry, law enforcement, government and academia to proactively detect, protect, deter, dismantle and stop cybercrime/threats. She has effectively led teams to leverage cross-sector resources and threat intelligence to more effectively analyse, correlate and attribute critical real-time intelligence against emerging cyber threats and deliver actionable intelligence to both industry and law enforcement.
Prior to being appointed as CEO and President, Maria served on the Board of Directors of the NCFTA from its inception in 2002 ‐ 2012 and as the Board Secretary for four years. With more than 25 years of experience in the design, integration, and implementation of global corporate systems, security, and networks, Ms. Vello has been responsible for integrating security best practices and raising awareness levels at every level in every organization for which she has worked.
Maria received her B.A. from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and completed post‐ graduate work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. She has also attended numerous executive leadership and management trainings, including Carnegie Mellon‐Software Engineering Institute’s certification program in the delivery, facilitation, consulting, and training of the Institute’s OCTAVE methodology. In addition to being a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Maria is also certified in the RAM‐ W physical security certification for the water industry, which is one of our nation’s critical infrastructures.
Maria’s has been recognized by the FBI Executive team and FBI CIRFU for here exemplary service, partnership and contributions to the Cyber Division. She has been recognised by the NCFTA for her exemplary leadership, dedication and unparalleled passion for the NCFTA mission, awarded the AT&T Leaders Council award, she was the number one Regional Manager in Security for Cisco Systems, number one AT&T Sales Manager and she was also named to the top ten women in Cloud in 2014
